BPA Saturday Recap

Dalton, GA

The Titans (19-4-1) had their winning streak come to an end in the first game of the day(10am) at the BPA tourney at Lakeshore Park. The Cartersville Canes jumped out to an early lead and kept the Titans at bay in the opener of the day. The Canes behind some strong pitching and timely hitting walked away with a 6-1 victory.

The squad did not have long to sulk over the loss as they returned to the diamond at Heritage Point Park to battle the LFO Warriors at 2pm. Behind the strong pitching of Robert Daly and Brent Duncan the team kept the Warriors quiet and off the base paths and took home a 5-2 victory. The victory was the team's 20th of the young season!

After a break, the Titans then took on the Roswell Knights in the nightcap. After holding a 5-1 margin behind some timely hitting and the strong pitching of Tyler Ayres & Jordan Williams, the long day took hold and the Knights took advantage of some untimely errors and mental lapses and scored 8 runs to take a 9-5 lead going into the last inning. The Titans came roaring back scoring 2 more runs to close the gap to 9-7 and had the bases loaded when a pop-up ended the game. The loss sent the Titans(20-5-1) to the silver bracket for Sunday play in Dalton.

The team will be the #1 seed in the silver division and will take on the winners of the LFO Warriors and Eastside Trojans game. The battle will take place at 11am (Lakeshore Park/Dalton). The winner of that game will advance to silver championship at 3pm!

Titans tourney update!

The Kennesaw Titans spent their Sunday at Creekview High School doing the impossible and taking three games to capture the Mizuno Jr. Grizzlies Tourney Championship.

The Kennesaw Titans found themselves in the first round facing off against another group of Titans from Northview. Tyler Ayres once again did his thing by shutting down the Titans and the Kennesaw team plated 6 runs to send the Northview squad home with a 6-0 defeat. The win advanced the squad to the semi-finals matchup against the Coal Mountain Raiders.

DaMarkus Green took the hill and pitched some strong innings kept the Titans in the game. Jordan Williams came on relief to the finish the game and quieted the Raider bats and finished out the contest. The Titans bats also came alive and the squad scored 9runs to walk away with a 9-5 victory.

The championship game found the squad squaring off against the team that they had defeated the day before, the North Georgia Nitro. After their loss to the Titans, the Nitro run ruled every opponent in advancing to the championship. Jordan Williams took the mound and went three strong innings and then Robert Daly came on to throw four solid frames and keep the hard-hitting Nitro team off the board. The team finished the long day with a 9-3 victory!

The weekend saw some spectacular plays by: Scoop Villalobos at shorstop with some acrobatic plays that drew raves from the Creekview High School coaches, Hector Ortega who made a diving grab in right field, Casey Linch who continued his strong glove work at first base and Connor Austin who threw out 7 runners trying to advance in the tourney. The Titan pitchers once again dominated on the hill with some incredible outings by Tyler Ayres, DaMarkus Green, Robert Daly, Brent Duncan & Jordan Williams. The Titan pitchers this season have watched their hitters plate 176 runs while they have only yielded 58.

#3 Seed for Sunday

The Titans (15-3-1) returned to the diamond after their "Spring Break" and picked up where they left off before the break. The first game found the "rusty" Titans squeezing out a 4-3 victory over the Cherokee Pride, who the Titans have handled each time they have played over the past 2 seasons. Behind the strong pitching of Robert Daly & Brent Duncan, the Titans scored just enough to manage a victory. Casey Linch at first base made a great swipe tag of a runner to finish the game!

After a four hour break between games, the Kennesaw team faced off against the North Georgia Nitro in a great battle. The Nitro proved to be a formidable squad and after the Titans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Nitro scored 3 in the 2nd off starter DaMarkus Green. Jordan Williams came on in relief in the third inning and pitched through the 5th and shut down the hot Nitro bats. The Titans scored 3 more of their own in the bottom of the 4th on some huge hits by Cole Ragsdale, Connor Austin, Hector Ortega & Jordan Williams. The team took a 5-3 lead going into the top of the 5th. The Nitro were able to push across one more run to close the gap to 5-4 but with 2 outs, hard throwing Tyler Ayres came on to record the final out.

The Titans finished pool play 2-0 and are the #3 seed overall out of the 12 tourney teams. Sunday will find them squaring off for the first time at noon against the Northview Titans at the beautiful field of Creekview High School. What a finish!

Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - North Cobb High School

The Titans finished off the first half of their season with a bang by a thrilling come back win over the Shaw Park Sidewinders! The Titans entered the final frame down 5-3 and behind a 380foot double by Brent Duncan and an infield hit by "Scoop" Villalobos the Titans had runners at 1st and 3rd. After a steal by Villalobos which put runners in scoring position, Mitch Risley promptly hit a sharp single to left to plate the lead runner and Villalobos moved to third. Now down 5-4 the Sidewinders gave a intentional walk to hot-hitting DaMarkus Green who was 3-3 on the night. Titans cleanup hitter Robert Daly now found himself with the bases loaded and he promptly drilled a double to left center to plate the winning runs! Once again Brent Duncan came in to the game in relief and held the Sidewinders to help the Titans get back in the game.

The win helped the Titans finish the first half (13-3-1) and go to Spring Break with two wins out of three nights. The squad will now enjoy a week off before returning to the diamond for practice on April 13 at 4pm.
